TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front swept through Taiwan on Friday (April 24), bringing cooler temperatures and prompting the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) to issue a heavy rain advisory for northern areas. The temperature drop is due to the northeast monsoon, the CWA reported. The agency predicted brief showers or thunderstorms in the western half of the island, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall.
The CWA forecast predicted sporadic showers or thunderstorms in western regions as the front continues moving south. Other regions may see occasional brief showers or isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures dropped due to the strengthening northeast monsoon and increased cloud cover, the agency said. Residents in affected areas should prepare for sudden weather changes.
Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) said the weather will remain cool over the next two days, with a significant warm-up forecast for Sunday when temperatures could exceed 30°C (86°F). Lin noted that the northeast monsoon moving eastward from southern China is influencing current conditions. This pattern will result in cooler weather, with central and southern regions likely to see showers.
TyTech Taiwan | Weather Express (台灣颱風論壇|天氣特急), a weather forecasting group, indicated that peak rainfall occurred early Friday morning. As the front shifts southward toward the Bashi Channel from noon to evening, rainfall will gradually ease across the island. The atmosphere will remain unstable, and occasional showers are still possible throughout the day. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and prepare for sudden changes in conditions. ◼
