TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan will see cooler temperatures and potential heavy rain in northern and central regions starting Friday (April 24) as a front passes and the northeast monsoon strengthens, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported. The shift marks the start of an unstable weather period expected to last through Saturday.

Meteorologist Lin De-En (林得恩) said the front and northeast monsoon will bring increased moisture and a higher chance of rain from Friday through Saturday. A cloud-rain system from South China will also affect the island Saturday, pushing temperatures lower. Lin described the weather conditions as unstable during this two-day period.

Weather conditions are expected to improve Sunday as the northeast monsoon weakens and temperatures rise, Lin said. Most areas will see partly cloudy to sunny skies, with only eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) in southern Taiwan experiencing isolated showers. Central and southern mountainous areas may also see brief showers Saturday afternoon.

TVBS weather consultant Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) said cloud clusters identified over the region are more than 10 longitudes away from Taiwan and pose no direct impact on the island. Cheng noted that current computer models have limitations in capturing convective features and advised the public to monitor real-time weather updates. Forecast deviations remain possible, he added. ◼
