TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) invited Nvidia (輝達) CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) to visit Taiwan's power plants in an interview aired Friday (June 5). Huang said it would be "a great honor" before departing Taiwan that day. The exchange aired on Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV, 台視).
Lai said he welcomes Huang to visit Taiwan again, dine with Taipower (台灣電力公司) Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生), and tour the island's power plants. The visit would help build greater confidence in Taiwan's electricity supply, Lai said.
Global electricity consumption is rising rapidly as demand for AI computing surges. Energy has become critical infrastructure underpinning a new wave of technological competition, from data centers to advanced semiconductor manufacturing. For Taiwan, which relies heavily on exports and high-tech industries, a stable power supply is directly tied to industrial development and international competitiveness.
Huang said Taiwan must secure adequate energy to maintain prosperity, sustain economic growth, and capture the opportunities of the AI revolution. Energy is essential for industrial and economic expansion, he said. Taiwan's GDP grew by 14% in the first quarter of this year, Huang noted. He concluded his 14-day visit to Taiwan Friday morning and departed for South Korea on a private jet. ◼
