TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) welcomed on Monday (March 13) a joint declaration made three days earlier by the leaders of France and the United Kingdom on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The declaration, released following the 36th summit between the two countries held at the Palais de l'Elysée in Paris on March 10, stated that "France and the United Kingdom reaffirm the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and call for the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues.”

The MOFA said that the joint declaration underscores the consensus among international democratic countries on maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The ministry also commended the UK and France for their attention to Taiwan's security, noting that they are important regional players.

The ministry added that the actions of the UK and France demonstrate their steadfast support for Taiwan and highlight the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

It also emphasized that Taiwan will continue to work closely with like-minded partners to uphold peace, openness, and prosperity in the region and worldwide.

The summit was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, government officials, business leaders, and young representatives from both countries.

The summit marks a new chapter in the interaction between the UK and European Union countries.
