WASHINGTON (TVBS News) —  Former Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je met with U.S.-Taiwan Business Council President Rupert Hammond-Chambers on Monday (April 17) in Washington to explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

According to media reports, the meeting with U.S. semiconductor and weapon-manufacturing businesses unfolded behind closed doors. However, the discussions mainly concerned information and communications technology (ICT) and energy.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hammond-Chambers expressed a positive response, highlighting ongoing efforts to "expand the cooperation between Taiwan’s defense industrial base and America's defense industrial base."

Ko emphasized that developing drones and other national security technologies in Taiwan offers potential for collaboration with the U.S. "Such cooperation can be mutually beneficial and contribute to Taiwan's industry growth," he remarked.

"The distance between the Taiwan Strait is fixed, but the distance within the hearts of the people on both sides are not," Ko concluded.
