TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Spokesperson Chang Chih-hao questioned Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih's six key initiatives, including cross-strait medical zones and passenger and cargo hubs in Kinmen, on Wednesday (Aug. 23).

Chang asked for further clarification from Hou regarding his stance on cross-strait issues and whether he subscribes to the "1992 Consensus" and the "One China Principle" as outlined by China.

As part of his itinerary in Kinmen, Hou laid out six proposals including "promoting electricity and gas connectivity with the mainland" and "transforming Kinmen into a cross-strait freight hub." He emphasized the need to resume cross-strait consultation and communication under the 1992 Consensus.

To this, Chang criticized the ambiguity regarding Hou's proposals such as the "cross-strait passenger and cargo hub" and the designated "medical zones". He called on the KMT candidate to explicitly state if these proposals are governed by the "1992 Consensus" and the "One China Principle".

Chang pointed out that DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's stance on cross-strait exchange remains clear: a willingness to engage with China, respecting mutual equality and dignity.

He also confirmed that President Tsai Ing-wen's team, which includes Lai, would propose the "National Hope Project" on the basis of Tsai's earlier accomplishments, persistently stating "we are the best option," ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
