NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Environmental Protection Bureau of New Taipei City unveiled a plan on Tuesday (Dec. 22) to hire an additional 197 sanitation workers in response to the heavy workload caused by the city's extensive jurisdiction.

Currently, the sanitation team in New Taipei City comprises 5,298 staff members.

City Councilor Huang Shu-chun stressed the importance of increasing staff numbers in the coming year. She also highlighted the positive impact of introducing GORE-TEX breathable raincoats in 2019, which improved work efficiency.

Cheng Ta-wei, director-general of the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Department, confirmed plans to update the raincoats for sanitation workers and increase staffing.

In addition, the Ministry of Environment recently announced an increase in cleanliness bonuses for sanitation workers employed by local governments, raising the cap from NT$8,000 to NT$10,000. Safety bonuses will also see a significant rise, from NT$600 to NT$1,500, funded by local government budgets.

These financial improvements demonstrate the administration's commitment to the welfare of sanitation workers and the city's cleanliness.
