TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Changhua County Chief Wang Hui-mei responded on Tuesday (Dec. 12) to rumors of village chiefs' trips to China, expressing confidence in the nation's integrity and questioning the need for doubt.

The allegations emerged during an inquiry at the Changhua County Council by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Yang Tzu-hsien. Reports of potential Chinese intervention in the 2024 elections have raised concerns, with investigations underway.

Wang addressed the issue directly, emphasizing that hospitality should not undermine allegiance and urging confidence in the nation's resolve.

The Changhua District Prosecutors Office detained a suspect allegedly involved in organizing the trips to China. Authorities have summoned 22 individuals for questioning.

Yang called on the county government to guide those facing Chinese overtures, seeking advice for village chiefs. Wang attributed the scrutiny to the county's status as a "swing county" and trusted the village chiefs to make wise decisions.
