NANTOU (TVBS News) — Frost was observed on vegetation surfaces at Mount Jade North Peak in Nantou County's Xinyi Township early Monday (Dec. 18), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Although no snowfall was recorded, the CWA reported that temperatures plummeted to a frigid minus 4.2 degrees Celsius at the mountain's north peak on Monday morning.

This drop in temperature below the freezing point resulted in the formation of frost as the moisture near the ground began to freeze, the CWA explained.

In terms of general weather across the island, the weather bureau stated that the lowest temperatures on the plains were observed in Sanwan Township, Miaoli County, at 11.5 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, at 11.7 degrees.

Other regions across Taiwan experienced a slight increase in temperature, with lows rising above 13 degrees Celsius, the CWA added.
