HSINCHU (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen discussed her post-presidency plans on Monday (Dec. 18), suggesting that a teaching role could be in her future after her term ends.

"After graduation, perhaps I'll turn into a teacher," President Tsai said, using the term 'graduation' to hint at her impending departure from the presidential office.

Reflecting on her tenure, President Tsai recognized the multitude of challenges Taiwan has faced, but she also highlighted the stable growth and the breaking of economic and financial records during her governance.

President Tsai expressed her gratitude toward her supporters for giving her the opportunity to serve Taiwan. With an eye on the future, she voiced her hopes that her successor would lead Taiwan to even greater heights.

Reiterating the importance of presidential capability in governance and the push for reforms, Tsai underscored the need for a parliamentary majority that supports political transformation.

She commended Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim, the Democratic Progressive Party presidential and vice-presidential candidates, for being steadfast executors of the 'Tsai Ing-wen route,' a path she defines as "calm, stable, and trustworthy."

President Tsai elaborated that Taiwan's future leaders must be internationally trusted figures who can uphold peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and maintain cooperation and trust globally.
