HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim addressed students on Monday (Dec. 25), emphasizing that safeguarding Taiwan's democratic freedom benefits both Taiwan and the United States.

During a discussion with young students in Hsinchu City, the focus was on Taiwan-U.S. relations, including concerns about historical U.S. support, recent presidential attitudes, and educational equity.

Hsiao highlighted Taiwan's central role in strengthening Taiwan-U.S. relations and underlined her non-interference stance in U.S. politics. She stressed the importance of safeguarding Taiwanese interests.

Regarding President Trump's language, Hsiao compared it to election rhetoric and prioritized uninterrupted Taiwan-U.S. cooperation.

Students also questioned subsidies for private high schools, with Hsiao supporting educational equity and Lai Ching-te's aim to provide free senior high school education.
