TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Predominant south winds continue near Taiwan Tuesday (Feb. 20), resulting in mostly clear skies across the region. Sporadic, brief showers will be restricted to the eastern part of the region, the Hengchun Peninsula, and the northern mountains in the afternoon.

Temperatures will range from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius in the north and east, while central and southern areas will see highs between 30 and 32 degrees.

The mountainous southern districts will be slightly warmer by one or two degrees. Morning lows will be approximately 20 to 23 degrees, leading to a significant daily temperature range.

According to meteorologist Wu Der-rong, the lowest temperatures across the flat regions of Taiwan will be around 17 to 20 degrees with a significant day-night temperature discrepancy.

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model indicates that due to the effects of a "Anticyclone Reverse Flow System," the weather will be sunny and stable for several days. Meanwhile, western parts of the island, along with Kinmen and Matsu, are prone to fog.

Weak cold fronts and Northeast monsoons will bring short-lived local rainfall to the north and east from Thursday evening to next Tuesday (Feb. 27), causing a notable drop in temperature.

Starting Friday (Feb. 23) till next Tuesday (Feb. 27), the northeast monsoon will affect the city causing a surge in cloud cover, and sporadic local rainfall over the Greater Taipei area and the eastern parts of Taiwan.

Over the weekend, the cold air will slightly weaken and temperatures will rise marginally. However, the colder air will intensify from Sunday night, and this will last till next Monday (Feb. 26) night to Tuesday morning.

The latest simulations predict that lows on Monday night and Tuesday morning could drop to around 13 to 14 degrees, with coastal areas and some flatlands possibly seeing temperatures around 10 to 11 degrees.

Simulations are still being adjusted, and continued monitoring of weather reports is advised.
