WASHINGTON (TVBS News) — Thursday (April 11) marked the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), with a resolution reaffirming U.S. commitment to Taiwan introduced by bipartisan members and co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus.

Co-chairs Gerald Connolly, Mario Diaz-Balart, Ami Bera, and Andy Barr issued a joint statement, emphasizing the TRA as the cornerstone of U.S.-Taiwan relations.

They highlighted its achievement in fostering fruitful economic, security, and trade relations, and its crucial importance to the prosperity and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.

The resolution covers the House's commitment to the TRA, and calls on the Secretary of State to actively assist Taiwan in participating in international organizations, as well as recognizes the significant contributions of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in promoting U.S.-Taiwan interests.

The House resolution has so far received the endorsement of 63 members. Although the resolution from the U.S. Congress does not have legally binding force and does not require the signature of the U.S. President to take effect, it reflects the attitude and position of Congress.
