TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration (台北翡管局) said on Wednesday (May 22) that the Feitsui Reservoir (翡翠水庫) had received a significant rainfall of 127mm the day before from the plum rain front, totaling about 30 million tons of water. This influx has alleviated water scarcity concerns for the year, with the reservoir's rising water level.

Reservoir's Strategic Management

Feitsui Reservoir Administration Commissioner Lin Yu-i (林裕益) highlighted the reservoir's effective water management strategies, including releasing 1.8 million tons of water for domestic use on Wednesday. By 11:40 p.m., the water level had increased by 1 meter due to the rain, adding over 10 million tons of water.

The reservoir had been managed to near full capacity at the end of last year in anticipation of this year's drought conditions.

Supporting Northern Taiwan's Water Supply

Despite the tight water situation at Shihmen Reservoir (石門水庫), Feitsui Reservoir contributes 70 to 80 million tons of water daily and has a storage capacity of 230 million tons, the highest in Taiwan.

The administration reassured the public that, based on current assessments, there would be no water supply issues for the next three months. Furthermore, the upcoming flood season is expected to further secure the water supply, ensuring residents can rest easily regarding their water needs.

The strategic foresight and management of the Feitsui Reservoir have secured water for Taipei and supported surrounding areas, demonstrating the importance of preparedness in facing natural weather patterns. As the region moves into the flood season, the administration's efforts underscore a commitment to maintaining stability in water resources amidst changing environmental conditions.
