TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) released its third manpower demand survey for 2024 in August, revealing a net increase of 56,000 workers by the end of October compared to July. Service sector demand has outpaced the industrial sector for eight consecutive quarters.

The MOL attributed this growth primarily to business expansion and diversification, accounting for 54.8% of the increase, followed by the replacement of departing employees at 27.8%. Other industries also cited business expansion as the main reason for increased manpower, although the arts, entertainment, and leisure services sectors reported long-term labor shortages as their primary concern.

By the end of October, 28.1% of businesses anticipate increasing their workforce, while 3.9% expect reductions. The survey, conducted from July 1 to July 19, included enterprises with over 30 employees. The MOL noted that the expected increase in manpower is 64,000, with a decrease of 8,000, resulting in a net increase of 56,000.

As the employment landscape evolves, companies are urged to adapt to these changes and address labor shortages proactively. Future surveys will likely shed more light on the long-term trends shaping Taiwan's workforce.
