TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟), the gold medalist in men's doubles badminton at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, and his new partner, 21-year-old Chiu Hsiang-chieh (邱相榤), triumphed in their debut match at the Japan Open 2024 on Tuesday (Aug. 20).

The duo faced Japan's top-ranked pair, Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, who are ranked eighth globally. The match started evenly at 5-5, with Wang and Chiu initially falling behind 5-7. They quickly caught up, maintaining a close score until they eventually took the first game 21-16. In the second game, after an early 3-3 tie, Wang and Chiu surged ahead with a 5-point streak, winning 21-13 and advancing to the round of 16.

As Wang's former Olympic partner, Lee Yang (李洋), prepares to retire, Wang has begun partnering with Chiu. Despite practicing together for less than five days, Wang and Chiu have already showcased remarkable skills. Wang expressed confidence in their new pairing, stating that they can effectively cover both the front and back courts and only need to fine-tune their rapport.

Chiu shared his excitement, mentioning that it was his first time competing in such a high-level match. Fans eagerly await their next appearance, hopeful that the new duo will continue their winning streak.
