TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) called on Monday (Sept. 9) for a court ruling to determine the legality of the controversial Core Pacific Plaza project (京華城案).

Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman and former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) faces allegations of benefiting the Core Pacific Group (威京集團) by gifting better floor area ratio.

Chiang emphasized the city government's consistent stance, urging judicial authorities to hold violators accountable while clearing the innocent.

TPP recently issued a statement questioning the Taiwan Taipei District Court's (台灣台北地方法院) ruling, citing the Department of Urban Development's (都市發展局) January statement that the floor area ratio changes were legal.

Chiang clarified that the department's response earlier this year addressed the compliance of Core Pacific Plaza's processes with related laws. However, he stressed the necessity of respecting the ongoing judicial investigation.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) also commented on Sunday, asserting that the Core Pacific Plaza project complied with the Urban Planning Law (都市計畫法) procedures. He added that the court's judgment will determine its legality, and if found guilty of profiteering or corruption, the city government will halt the project.
