TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) convened its fifth meeting on reviewing the carbon fee rates on Monday (Sept. 9), but officials have yet to finalize the rates.
The four-hour meeting focused on the legislative process for rate setting, adjustment plans, and impact assessments across various industries.
The preliminary recommendation suggests an initial general rate ranging from NT$300 to NT$500 per metric ton, subject to biennial reviews and adjustments. Officials plan to retain the preferential rates until the following discussion.
The final rates, initially scheduled for release in June, are expected by the end of October. Trial declarations will start in May 2025, and actual charges will commence in 2026.
