TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railways Corporation (TRC, 台鐵) Chairman Du Wei (杜微) announced Friday (Sept. 13) that the board will discuss the revised fare adjustment proposal in October.

On Sept. 10, the TRC board reviewed the fare adjustment, which has not changed in 29 years. The board decided to return the proposal for revision due to missing evaluation data.

Du explained that board members found the proposal lacking in data and not aligned with public fare expectations. He emphasized that the revised proposal would undergo further discussion and if approved, be submitted to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) rate review committee.

Regarding the potential strike vote by the TRC union over holiday bonuses being issued as vouchers, Du Wei acknowledged the dedication of TRC employees. He noted that employees sacrifice family time and face increased workloads during holidays.

Du stated that TRC had negotiated with labor representatives earlier this year to provide additional holiday bonuses. However, legal constraints delayed the process. The MOTC will amend guidelines to allow TRC to issue vouchers, he added.

He noted that while the current plan involves issuing vouchers, TRC will continue efforts to provide cash bonuses in the future. He added that the company respects the union's opinions and will maintain ongoing communication and coordination.
