TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Tuesday (Oct. 22) emphasized that his ideas for new nuclear energy technologies are not just empty talk but part of a strategic approach to Taiwan's energy future.

In a recent Bloomberg News interview, Cho stated that the government is open to new nuclear technologies. This stance has sparked criticism from opposition parties, who accuse the government of inconsistency regarding nuclear energy policies.

Cho insisted that Taiwan should not be left behind in technological advancements and that society requires more trust to foster constructive dialogue rather than irrational criticism. Cho highlighted electric vehicles as an example of how future energy technologies could address safety and waste disposal concerns associated with nuclear power.

He expressed the government's intention to align with global trends by researching and developing these technologies.

Public interest has grown concerning the retention of employees at decommissioned nuclear plants. Cho assured that Taiwan Power Company (台電) employees possess the necessary skills and experience to be at the forefront of new technologies. The Executive Yuan (行政院) plans to discuss specific arrangements with Taiwan Power Company.
