TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Sports (台北市體育局) announced Tuesday (Oct. 29) plans to erect a monument at Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋) next year, commemorating the historical Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium (台北市立棒球場) through public art.

This decision comes after Chou Szu-chi (周思齊), a player from the Brothers (中信兄弟) in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL, 中華職棒), advocated for the monument during his retirement ceremony in late September.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) expressed support for Chou's proposal and initiated studies for implementation. Wang Hung-shiang (王泓翔), head of Taipei's Department of Sports, revealed that they have already met with experts recommended by Chou and conducted site inspections at Taipei Arena.

Wang stated that the monument should not only convey the historical and cultural significance of the Taipei Baseball Stadium but also incorporate aesthetics to become a popular photo spot.

To build consensus, the department plans to hold two additional forums, inviting input from the CPBL, the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA, 中華民國棒球協會), and veteran players. They aim to finalize the monument's design direction by the end of the year.
