TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Zoo (台北市動物園) closed its doors Friday (Nov. 1) to ensure visitor safety after Typhoon Kong-rey (康芮颱風) caused multiple trees to topple and damaged several facilities. The zoo announced it will remain closed for one day to conduct environmental cleanup and repair efforts.

The Taipei City Department of Disaster Response Center (台北市災害防救辦公室) reported receiving 3,370 disaster-related cases by 6 a.m. Friday due to Typhoon Kong-rey. These incidents included 1,972 cases of fallen trees, 414 infrastructure issues, 355 building damages, and 86 instances of environmental pollution.

The office noted that the typhoon brought strong gusts exceeding level 11 for over five hours in the city, with the highest gust reaching level 11. This intensity is second only to Typhoon Soudelor's record of eight hours of level 11 gusts, peaking at level 13.

Public transportation in Taipei resumed normal operations Friday, with city buses providing commuter and school services. As Taipei continues recovery efforts, residents are urged to remain cautious and follow updates from local authorities regarding safety and transportation services.
