TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) stated on Friday (Nov. 1) that there is no need for a post-disaster recovery day since the conditions do not meet the standards for work and school suspension.

Typhoon Kong-rey caused widespread damage, toppling trees across the country. Local government teams have been busy restoring cityscapes, while many netizens suggested an additional day off for recovery, sparking debate.

Liu responded to media inquiries in the Legislative Yuan (立法院) regarding work conditions and the fallen trees, assuring that county and city governments have started addressing the issues.

When pressed about the necessity of a post-disaster day, Liu shook her head and reiterated that the situation does not warrant suspending work and school.

The Ministry of Interior (MOI, 內政部) released a statement clarifying that Liu only explained the weather situation. The responsibility for suspending work and classes lies with local governments, which the ministry respects.
