TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Monday (Nov. 4) that the city has achieved a 97% completion rate in post-Typhoon Kong-rey recovery efforts as of 8 a.m. Officials have worked swiftly to restore the city, said, adding that major roads were cleared and cleaned between Nov. 1 and Nov. 3, ensuring smooth traffic flow.

Chiang highlighted the efficiency of the recovery process by comparing it to the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor in 2015 when the Department of Environmental Protection (環保局) took two weeks to restore the city's appearance. This time, they accomplished the task in just three days. The city government reportedly received 4,467 disaster reports, resolving 4,341 by Monday morning.

Despite significant progress, recovery efforts continue in neighborhood parks and remote mountainous areas. Chiang expects all neighborhood parks to be fully restored by Monday and Tuesday. The Parks and Street Lights Office reported that 224 green spaces and 216 parks need restoration, with about 55 requiring additional support from relevant units.

Looking ahead, Chiang emphasized the importance of reviewing pre-typhoon preparedness to enhance the speed and efficiency of future recovery efforts.
