TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Friday (Nov. 8) that the city will fine the Farglory Group (遠雄集團) for any confirmed leaks, after professional technicians conduct an on-site inspection at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋). Mayor Chiang addressed the Taipei City Council in the morning, covering topics such as the Taipei Dome's fire safety and water leakage improvements. His statement came amid ongoing concerns over the facility's issues, including fire safety and water leakage over the past months.

Last November, the dome received its usage license but failed to submit a public safety inspection report within the required year. Consequently, the city's Construction Management Office (CMO, 建管處) posted a "Public Safety Inspection Non-compliant Location" (建築物公共安全檢查不合格場所) notice and fined the dome NT$120,000. The CMO set a deadline for compliance by Saturday, with penalties increasing to NT$300,000 for late submissions, and potential measures include suspension or cutting off utilities.

Chiang stressed that the city government has already involved the "Taipei Civil Engineers Association" (台北市土木技師公會) in three joint inspections with Farglory, demanding a comprehensive improvement report. Since Nov. 1, the city has imposed daily fines for unresolved issues, incorporating improvements into performance assessments. The city plans to establish an operations performance evaluation committee by the end of 2024. An on-site inspection is scheduled for early 2025, and Farglory is required to submit audited financial reports by the end of July. The committee will evaluate operational performance based on various indicators.
