TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) on Friday (Nov. 8) expressed concerns about Taiwan's increasing political and economic challenges following former U.S. President Trump's return to the White House. Han emphasized the importance of maintaining Taiwan's safety through the pillars of the Republic of China, democracy and freedom, U.S.-Taiwan relations, and cross-strait peace.

At an international forum on geopolitics and cross-strait relations post-U.S. presidential election earlier that day, Han voiced his concern about cross-strait relations becoming a binary choice between unification and independence. He hoped for the expansion of the country's stable force to maintain balance, and further likened this stability to a "dog bone shape" as the optimal choice.

Han also highlighted the need to pay attention to U.S. Vice President-elect JD Vance, who overcame a challenging upbringing to serve in the military and eventually earn a Ph.D. He noted Vance's journey as a testament to resilience and transformation.

Han warned of the potential long-term impact of a successful Republican administration, which could extend its influence for up to 12 years. This scenario could significantly affect global dynamics, particularly in Asia and notably Taiwan. Han underscored the importance of Taiwan's strategic positioning amid these potential shifts.
