TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A slightly stronger northeast monsoon will bring cooler temperatures to northern Taiwan on Tuesday (Dec. 31), including Yilan and Hualien, with daytime highs around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署). As temperatures dip further overnight, residents in northern and northeastern regions should prepare for lows of 14 to 15°C.

Radiation cooling will affect areas from Tainan northward and Yilan, with morning lows between 12 and 15°
C. Some parts of Hsinchu, Miaoli, Nantou, and Kinmen could experience temperatures as low as 10 to 11°C. Penghu will see temperatures ranging from 16 to 19°C on the outlying islands, while Kinmen and Matsu will experience lows between 11 and 18°C. The Greater Taipei and eastern regions will have more cloud cover, with occasional showers expected in eastern areas and the Hengchun Peninsula. From the daytime, cloudiness will increase from south to north in western regions and Penghu.

By evening, there is a slight chance of rain in the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, so carrying rain gear is advisable for outdoor activities. Kinmen and Matsu will enjoy partly cloudy to clear skies, making them suitable for outdoor activities. However, the strengthened northeast wind will bring strong gusts of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale to coastal areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island (蘭嶼), Green Island (綠島), Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, urging caution for seaside activities.
