SunnyHills thanks customers, clarifies export labeling rules

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — SunnyHills (微熱山丘), a renowned pineapple cake brand, emphasized on Friday (Jan. 3) that all its products are labeled as produced and exported from Taiwan, with no manufacturing bases elsewhere. The statement came after public outrage over its labeling of origin as "China Taiwan," prompting calls for a boycott.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) joined the boycott, suggesting Chia Te (佳德) as an alternative for gift-giving, praising it as a company that does not sell out for profit. SunnyHills clarified that Chinese distributors might relabel products to comply with local regulations before importing them into China.
Since its founding in 2009, SunnyHills Delights (寶田股份有限公司), the parent company, has not changed ownership. The company closed its Shanghai branch in 2018, leaving the Chinese market to local distributors. SunnyHills thanked concerned customers and reiterated that Taiwanese law requires the origin to be labeled "Taiwan" for export.
