TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR, 台灣高鐵) will commence pre-sale for 12 additional trains on Saturday (Jan. 11) to accommodate the Lunar New Year travel rush. The trains will include five southbound and seven northbound routes to transport holiday travelers efficiently. THSR plans to operate 380 extra trains during the 2025 Lunar New Year period, offering 2,258 services over 12 days.
THSR advises travelers to plan their northbound journeys early, as tickets for trains departing after noon on Jan. 31 through Feb. 2 are selling quickly. Also, to meet high demand, THSR will expand the Nangang (南港) seating capacity to the Taichung route, adding 47 trains with eight unreserved cars each. THSR has increased staff at stations and on trains to ensure smooth travel, urging passengers to maintain order and clear exit paths.
When unreserved seating areas become crowded, vestibules or aisles in reserved cars will be opened for standing passengers. On Feb. 8, a makeup workday, they will add two northbound trains to accommodate commuters. Travelers should take advantage of the additional services and plan their journeys promptly to avoid congestion and ensure a seamless travel experience during this busy holiday season.
