TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Prominent Taiwanese entertainer Mickey Huang (黃子佼) partially admitted to charges of child sexual exploitation during his first appeal hearing at the Taiwan High Court (台灣高等法院) on Wednesday (March 26). The disgraced TV personality, once a household name in Taiwan's entertainment industry, offered no verbal statement to the press but performed a deeply apologetic nine-second bow before cameras as he exited the courthouse, his face etched with apparent remorse.
Huang's legal team represented him throughout most of the proceedings, where he faces allegations of possessing an extensive collection of 2,259 videos depicting minors in sexual acts. His previous sentence from the Taipei District Court (台北地院) included eight months' imprisonment and a fine of NT$100,000 (around US$3,030) for violating child protection laws — a punishment prosecutors have appealed as insufficiently severe. Court documents identify Huang as a high-ranking member of the infamous "Chuangyi Sifang" (創意私房) online forum, where he allegedly purchased exploitative content over a six-year period ending in July 2023, with victims reportedly including children as young as 10 years old.
Huang's downfall began amid Taiwan's 2023 MeToo movement, which brought forward disturbing allegations that he had forcibly kissed underage girls and taken nude photographs without consent. One woman stepped forward with sexual assault accusations against the entertainer. For Wednesday's hearing, Huang arrived dressed in what has become his characteristic courtroom attire — a simple blue shirt. After participating in the 50-minute proceeding, he maintained complete silence when confronted by journalists' questions, offering only a pronounced five-second bow before quickly leaving the premises.
The scandal has created collateral damage for Huang's wife, actress Summer Meng (孟耿如), as public outrage spills over to her professional projects. Social media users have organized boycott campaigns targeting the highly anticipated Taiwanese drama "The World Between Us 2" (我們與惡的距離2), where Meng plays a significant role. Responding to mounting pressure, the production team released a carefully worded statement on Tuesday, pledging to implement appropriate editing changes while preserving the artistic integrity of the critically acclaimed series.
