TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) top executive outlined an ambitious vision for the semiconductor giant's artificial intelligence strategy while highlighting Taiwan's crucial role in the company's global operations. Lisa Su (蘇姿丰), AMD's Chair and CEO, detailed the firm's commitment to high-performance computing and chiplet technology during a Tuesday (April 15) appearance. Su revealed plans to expand American manufacturing capacity alongside the forthcoming launch of AMD's MI350 AI chips.

The technology executive made her remarks before delivering a lecture entitled "AMD's Transformation into an AI Leader" at the National Taiwan University (NTU, 台大). Su emphasized the strategic importance of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電), the world's leading chip foundry, describing it as AMD's essential manufacturing partner. She disclosed having met with TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei (魏哲家) a day earlier. A dinner with major industry stakeholders was planned for Tuesday evening to address concerns about impending American semiconductor tariffs.

Speaking to a packed auditorium of 500 university faculty members and students, Su drew upon her three decades of semiconductor industry expertise to articulate corporate growth principles. "Technology is always evolving," the executive told the audience, emphasizing high-performance computing (HPC) as a cornerstone of contemporary existence and AMD's business strategy. The remarks resonated with the academic crowd at Taiwan's premier university.

The CEO detailed AMD's global impact, noting that the company's technology reaches approximately one billion people through various computing platforms and internet infrastructure. Su repeatedly underscored the importance of TSMC as AMD's manufacturing cornerstone while expressing pride in the company's technical accomplishments. She pointed to AMD's dominance in high-performance computing, with the company's technology powering half of the world's top ten supercomputers, positioning HPC as the foundation of emerging technological paradigms. ★
