TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese pop star and actor Show Lo (羅志祥) revealed Wednesday (June 4) his long-awaited return to cinema after an eight-year absence with the upcoming film "Influencer" (我的網紅女兒). The multifaceted entertainer, once dubbed the "Asian Dance King," will take on the role of a "gangster influencer" in what constitutes his first movie appearance since starring alongside Jackie Chan in the 2017 sci-fi action film "Bleeding Steel" (機器之血).

The 45-year-old entertainment veteran disclosed that he actively lobbied the production team to enhance his character's significance, specifically pushing for additional action sequences in the film's second act. In his methodical preparation for the role, Lo immersed himself in social media culture, dedicating hours to studying short-form video content and observing e-commerce livestreams. According to Lo, the original screenplay portrayed his character as an aspiring gangster-themed content creator who accidentally becomes entangled with authentic criminal elements. With characteristic candor, he acknowledged giving traditional red envelopes (a customary Chinese gift of money symbolizing good fortune) to the director to negotiate expanded screen presence.

Throughout production, Lo candidly admitted feeling intimidated when sharing scenes with respected Taiwanese character actor Jason Wang (王識賢), who portrays the central father figure with what Lo described as remarkable emotional authenticity. Wang explained that the narrative fundamentally examines the complex relationship between a father and his social media-famous daughter, noting that he incorporated personal experiences with his own child into his characterization. The seasoned performer offered a sobering assessment of digital celebrity culture, observing that "the influencer road is too tough" for many young aspirants navigating today's competitive content landscape. ◼
