TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. entrepreneur Andrew Yang (楊安澤) has extended an invitation to Tesla CEO Elon Musk to join forces in creating a new political party, Yang revealed to Politico on Sunday (June 8). The overture comes after Musk recently floated the idea of forming a new political movement following his abrupt departure from an advisory role in the White House. Yang acknowledged that Musk has not yet responded to his collaborative proposal, which aims to reshape America's increasingly polarized political landscape.

During his Politico interview, Yang emphasized that discussions about forming a new American political party have circulated for years among disaffected voters and political strategists. He remained optimistic despite Musk's silence on the invitation, chalking up the lack of response to the tech billionaire's notoriously packed schedule running multiple companies. Yang painted a concerning picture of America's political landscape, describing a troubling evolution where the system has progressed beyond mere dysfunction into dangerous division that threatens democratic stability.

Yang brings considerable political experience to his outreach effort, having previously campaigned for both New York City mayor and U.S. president as a Democrat before establishing the Forward Party (前進黨) in 2022. His centrist political movement has already attracted former Republicans, Democrats, and independents seeking alternatives to America's two-party system. The timing appears opportune, as The Hill reports several high-profile defections from the Democratic Party in recent days, including former White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, who recently declared herself an independent, citing her disillusionment with intensifying political polarization.

Musk represents a potentially transformative ally for any new political movement, having established himself as a major Republican donor during last year's U.S. election while maintaining a politically diverse portfolio of supported candidates that includes Yang himself. Political analysts view Musk's recent estrangement from the Republican establishment as significant, with many speculating that his considerable financial resources could dramatically alter America's political landscape if directed toward a new party. The tech mogul's recent political involvement included a brief collaboration with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration before an unexpectedly premature departure from his advisory position in the White House. ◼
