TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chuo Jong-tai (卓榮泰) Taiwan's head of government and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) conducted an official visit to the National Sports Training Center (國家運動訓練中心) on Friday (July 4) to observe the Taiwanese delegation's intensive preparations for the 2025 Summer World University Games. The international competition begins July 16 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, where Taiwan's athletes will compete across multiple disciplines.
The officials carefully assessed the readiness of athletes specializing in fencing, taekwondo, judo, and track and field events. Premier Chuo praised the athletes' unwavering dedication, acknowledging that their rigorous training aims to achieve faster, higher, and farther performances on the international stage. The Premier disclosed that President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) Taiwan's head of state plans to present the national flag to the athletes on July 11, personally encouraging them to perform at their peak and bring honor to Taiwan.
The government has strategically implemented Olympic-standard facilities, including specialized transit stations and meal apartments, to support athletes' swift adaptation to local conditions in Germany. Premier Chuo urged athletes to maintain proper hydration and prioritize their health, expressing his wishes for the team to secure impressive results at the Games. The newly established Ministry of Sports (運動部) Taiwan's dedicated sports agency, scheduled to launch Sept. 9, will continue enhancing Taiwan's sports standards and expanding athletes' opportunities in international competitions. ◼
