TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Rescue teams recovered the body of a 19-year-old Indian student Wednesday (Aug. 27) near Zhanghu Suspension Bridge (樟湖吊橋) in Yunlin County's Gukeng Township (古坑鄉), ending a three-day search operation. The discovery at 12:40 p.m. concluded efforts to locate the Nanhua University student who disappeared Monday (Aug. 25) during a group outing with friends. The tragic incident has shaken Taiwan's international student community as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
The student belonged to a four-person group from Nanhua University (NHU, 南華大學), a Buddhist-affiliated institution in Chiayi County, comprising three male and one female international students visiting the popular tourist destination. Witnesses reported he fell into the water below the scenic suspension bridge, leaving behind personal belongings including his scooter, cellphone, shoes, and clothing on the bridge. His companions immediately contacted Taiwan's fire department, which launched an extensive search and rescue operation involving multiple emergency response teams. ◼
