TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nanhua University (南華大學) worked Thursday (Aug. 28) to assist relatives of a deceased Indian student in traveling to Taiwan following the tragic discovery of his body near Zhushan Suspension Bridge (樟湖吊橋). The student was found a day earlier after disappearing Monday, with rescue teams from the Yunlin County Fire Department (雲林縣消防局) recovering his body at 12:40 p.m. The university immediately initiated support services while coordinating international travel arrangements for the grieving family members.

University officials revealed the student had traveled alone to the scenic bridge location around 11 a.m. Monday before calling his fellow Indian classmate, Nange (南格), to join him. Nange's arrival at 3:40 p.m. revealed only abandoned personal belongings including clothes and a mobile phone, prompting immediate alarm. The discovery led Nange to alert other international students and notify local police authorities at 4 p.m., triggering the extensive search operation.

The university simultaneously launched comprehensive counseling services for the campus's international student community, recognizing the profound impact of losing a classmate. University leadership stressed the critical importance of avoiding hazardous recreational areas and pledged to strengthen safety education programs specifically addressing water-related risks. These enhanced measures target students unfamiliar with Taiwan's geographic dangers, particularly around popular scenic locations that can pose hidden threats to inexperienced visitors. ◼
