TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's newly appointed Sports Minister Lee Yang (李洋) participated in his first Executive Yuan meeting on Thursday (Sept. 11), where he outlined ambitious plans to transform the island's sports landscape. The Executive Yuan, Taiwan's cabinet, convened to discuss comprehensive reforms aimed at strengthening Taiwan through athletic excellence and public engagement. Lee expressed deep appreciation for inter-ministerial support while emphasizing the critical need to address evolving public sports requirements across the island.
The cabinet meeting centered on the comprehensive report "Creating a New Era of Sports in Taiwan" (開創臺灣運動新時代), which presents a bold vision for strengthening Taiwan through athletic achievement. The Ministry of Sports plans to revolutionize public sports participation and develop Taiwan's sports industry through an integrated organizational structure. This ambitious framework encompasses one ministry, one specialized agency, and three dedicated centers working in coordination.
The Taiwan Sports Industry Development Center (國家運動產業發展中心) and the Sports All Agency (全民運動署) will spearhead these transformative initiatives across the island. The ministry simultaneously seeks to strengthen competitive athletics through strategic partnerships with the National Sports Training Center (國家運動訓練中心) and the Taiwan Institute of Sports Science (國家運動科學中心). These collaborations represent a coordinated approach to elevating Taiwan's sporting excellence on multiple fronts.
Lee has articulated six strategic directions since assuming his ministerial role, including implementing comprehensive public sports programs, integrating competitive sports structures, and enhancing Taiwan's capacity to host major international events. The minister also prioritizes promoting sports industry development, practicing sustainable environmental values, and nurturing emerging youth talent. These initiatives reflect a holistic approach to transforming Taiwan's athletic landscape across multiple sectors and age groups.
