TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan completed a tourism inspection delegation to Eswatini Thursday (Oct. 2), strengthening diplomatic ties through the "Rongbang Program" (榮邦計畫). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部), Taiwan's foreign ministry, organized the Sept. 25-Oct. 2 visit to enhance tourism collaboration between the two nations with 57 years of diplomatic relations.
The delegation included 17 representatives from Taiwan's Travel Agent Association and nine travel agencies, receiving full accompaniment from Eswatini authorities. Delegates explored natural landscapes and cultural festivals, including the Marula Festival, Umhlanga Reed Dance, and Incwala Ceremony. Eswatini officials prioritized the visit as part of strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation.
MOFA, Taiwan's foreign ministry, and Taiwan's embassy in Eswatini arranged meetings with Tourism Minister Jane Mkhonta-Simelane. Participants visited traditional African villages, wildlife reserves, and cultural events while exploring Sibebe Rock, the world's second-largest monolith. The delegation assessed local hotels and restaurants to evaluate tourism infrastructure and collaboration potential.
The delegation conducted extensive discussions with Eswatini's tourism board and local operators about future collaboration opportunities. MOFA, Taiwan's foreign ministry, plans to continue the Rongbang Program under its comprehensive diplomacy policy, deepening cooperation across multiple sectors. The initiative aims to enhance sustainable tourism development for mutual benefit between the long-standing diplomatic partners. ◼
