TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang confirmed Friday (Nov. 28) he visited Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) founder Morris Chang (張忠謀) during his recent Taiwan trip, fulfilling a promise made earlier this month. Huang arrived discreetly a day earlier and reported Chang is in good condition during their meeting. The CEO stressed this trip is mainly for personal reasons and plans to return to the U.S. later that day.

Huang did not disclose whether he would meet with Barry Lam (林百里), chairman of Quanta (廣達), a major electronics manufacturer, during his brief stay in Taiwan. His visit comes amid heightened market competition following Google's recent release of Gemini 3, which utilizes its proprietary TPU chip technology. Industry analysts suggest this development could pose significant challenges to Nvidia's dominant market position in AI computing hardware.

Huang acknowledged fierce competition in the tech sector, citing significant challenges from specialized hardware like TPUs (Tensor Processing Units) and ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) developed by competitors. Nvidia must continue to innovate aggressively to maintain its market leadership position, he stated during the visit. Despite these challenges, Huang expressed strong confidence in Nvidia's GPU products, highlighting their versatility allows them to run in all cloud environments and execute global AI models, giving the company a competitive edge.

This marks Huang's fifth visit to Taiwan this year, underscoring his close ties with the island's semiconductor industry. On Nov. 8, he attended a TSMC sports event, supporting the company in TSMC attire despite Chang's absence due to health issues that prevented the founder from participating. Before leaving Taiwan on that trip, Huang said he would find time to visit Chang as soon as possible, a promise he fulfilled by returning less than 20 days later. ◼
