TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market closed up 71.95 points at 27,626.48 Friday (Nov. 28), marking a 0.26% gain despite late selling pressure from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電). The benchmark index surged over 200 points at midday before profit-taking in TSMC shares trimmed the advance to under 72 points. Total transaction value for the trading session reached NT$471.576 billion (around US$15.1 billion).
ASPEED (信驊) hit its price ceiling at NT$7,315 (around US$234), setting a new record high for Taiwan's stock market. TSMC closed at NT$1,440 (around US$46), rising NT$5 (around US$0.16), while CPO silicon photonics and BBU concept stocks posted strong gains. The electronics sector index rose 0.42%, the financial sector index fell 1.11%, and the over-the-counter index increased 1.56%.
Foxconn (鴻海) shares fell NT$5.5 (around US$0.18) to close at NT$225.5 (around US$7.23). MediaTek (聯發科) rose NT$55 (around US$1.76) to NT$1,395 (around US$44.71), while Quanta Computer (廣達) gained NT$0.5 (around US$0.02) to NT$282 (around US$9.04). CPO silicon photonics stocks surged, with Browave (波若威) hitting its price ceiling at NT$318 (around US$10.19), Shunsin-KY (訊芯-KY) rising 7.44%, and VisEra (采鈺) gaining 7.35%.
BBU concept stocks also rallied, with STL Technology (新盛力) and Advanced Energy Solution (AES-KY) hitting price ceilings at NT$159.5 (around US$5.11) and NT$1,405 (around US$45.03). Synergy (興能高) rose 6.02% and Celxpert (加百裕) gained 4.94%. Market analysts noted rising expectations for a U.S. Federal Reserve rate cut in December, with investors focusing on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting Dec. 9-10. ◼
