TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taichung City Government (台中市政府) announced on Thursday (Dec. 11) that Czech Representative to Taiwan, David Steinke, participated in filming an international promotional video for the Taichung Shopping Festival (台中購物節). Taichung's Economic Development Bureau (經發局) emphasized Steinke's role in showcasing cultural ties between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.
Steinke commenced his visit at Beitun's "T-Roll" (堤捲), where he interacted with the Czech owner in their native language. He tried making "Trdelník," a traditional Czech pastry, and remarked that while it looked simple, it was incredibly difficult to make. For lunch, Steinke met Finnish Representative to Taiwan, Lauri Raunio (羅瑞), at "ABV Bar & Kitchen," where he humorously introduced his friend on camera.
In the afternoon, Steinke explored the Czech Republic's national treasure, "Moldavite," at Xitun's "Jixiang Crystal Shop" (吉祥水晶), describing its rarity and value. Later, Steinke visited the "Caffe forte" (活力文化咖啡館), where owner Kao Sung-ming (高嵩明) displayed Czech cultural elements. Steinke praised the authenticity of the Czech dish "Znojemská pečeně and sauerkraut."
Steinke concluded his day at "Opulent State" (國裕精品), where he appreciated Czech crystal craftsmanship before meeting Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕). The day's events culminated in a dinner at "Smile Nordic Restaurant" (憲賣北歐食酒餐廳), where Steinke lauded Taichung's cuisine and culture, urging international visitors to join the festival.
