TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail (台灣高鐵) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 14) plans to add 395 train services during the Lunar New Year period, providing a total of 2,162 services over 11 days. Ticket sales for these services will begin on Friday (Jan. 16) at midnight. The extended train services aim to accommodate the travel surge from Feb. 13 to 23, aligning with the holiday from Feb. 14 to 22.
The rail company plans to add 170 southbound and 225 northbound trips, ensuring flexibility with 2 to 9 unreserved cars per train. Taiwan High Speed Rail encourages travelers to use the "T-EX Mobile Ticketing" app or other available platforms to purchase tickets. Options include convenience stores, the online booking system, station ticket windows, and vending machines.
Travelers should plan ahead to secure reserved seats, as demand is expected to be high. Taiwan High Speed Rail advises early booking and ticket collection to facilitate a smooth boarding process. Passengers needing to change their travel time should exchange tickets promptly to release seats for others.
During off-peak hours, the rail service will offer early bird discounts on select trains, with limited discounts of 50%, 20%, or 10% available. Over 84,000 early bird seats will be offered, with daily limited 50% discounts throughout the 11-day period. The website will update popular reserved trains, allowing passengers to check availability and book early.
