TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia will establish its Taiwan headquarters at Taipei's Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (BSTP, 北投士林科技園區), officials announced Thursday (Feb. 5), marking a major collaboration between local and central governments.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) announced the American chipmaker's selection of the BSTP, crediting Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) for facilitating the project. The city will negotiate terms with Nvidia before finalizing the contract.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), Taiwan's head of government, highlighted the project as a successful example of thorough cooperation between central and local authorities. The Ministry of Economic Affairs approved Nvidia's AI Innovation R&D Center project on Tuesday (Feb. 4), while the Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) swiftly addressed legal issues regarding land use rights.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) expressed gratitude to Nvidia for selecting the BSTP and acknowledged the central government's support in securing the deal. Speaking before the Taipei International Comics and Animation Festival, he emphasized the city government's sustained efforts to attract Nvidia's overseas headquarters.

Lee reiterated the project's benefits for Taipei and Taiwan's AI industry while praising Minister Liu's support. When asked about Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨), a smaller opposition party, Chairman Huang Kuo-chang's (黃國昌) comments, Lee remarked that everyone has unique traits and that Huang's strengths are worthy of learning. Lee declined to comment on his potential resignation as deputy mayor to run for the New Taipei City mayoral election. ◼
