TAIPEI (TVBS News) — South Korean Hollywood star Sung Kang (姜成鎬) officiated a wedding for his friend Makoto (馬可多), a renowned lightsaber maker, in Taipei on Wednesday (Feb. 25). Kang's approachable demeanor captivated onlookers at the household registration office, where he posed for photos with the newlyweds and their families.
Makoto, celebrated for his craftsmanship, first connected with Kang in 2023 after gifting him a high-end, handcrafted lightsaber valued at NT$50,000 (approximately US$1,500). This exquisite piece captivated celebrities such as Louis Koo (古天樂), Donnie Yen (甄子丹), and JJ Lin (林俊傑), who sought out Makoto's expertise.
Kang expressed his joy during the ceremony, stating, "We have known each other since 2023 and have become family. This is my Taiwanese family, and now I am honored to be their wedding witness. They will be a great couple, and I hope you have many, many children."
Makoto shared that Kang humorously urged him to marry during a dinner gathering, ultimately playing a pivotal role in the union. True to his word, Kang attended the wedding to witness his friend's special day. In addition to officiating, Kang visited Mackay Memorial Hospital and National Taiwan University Children's Hospital, where he toured the wards and distributed toys to young patients, demonstrating his compassionate nature.
