TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a move to address recent reports of food shortages among troops stationed in Matsu, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) dispatched two C-130 military aircraft loaded with meat supplies on Monday (March 6).

According to reports, soldiers stationed on one of the Matsu islands had written complaints regarding the lack of food supplies on the sand last Sunday, with photos of the remarks circulating on the Internet shortly after.

The messages conveyed that the soldiers had gone without meat for several days and had resorted to canned foods and instant noodles as supplements.

Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng subsequently offered an apology, explaining that the shortage of supplies was due to delivery schedules impacted by the breakdown of a boat usually used to transport meat to the outlying islands.

Chiu addressed the issue on Monday, vowing to prevent similar food shortages from occurring in the future.
