Taiwan election campaign yet to kick off: TPP

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je emphasized on Thursday (Dec. 7) that the election's outcome remains uncertain, envisioning the race as a civic movement yet to fully ignite.

Ko, alongside TPP legislator candidate Chiu Chen-yuan, conveyed this perspective during a television program recording.

During the program, Ko advocated for amendments to the Assisted Reproduction Act, expressing concern that without changes, only the affluent could access assisted reproduction procedures abroad, which he believes should be more widely available.

Drawing parallels to the Sunflower Movement, which once rallied 500,000 individuals without a central command, Ko hinted at a similar grassroots approach for the upcoming election.

Ko disclosed his campaign staff's advice to conduct rolling polls and release daily results, citing traditional campaign methods as insufficient for victory.

Given the TPP's limited campaign budget — with a single large rally costing over NT$15 million — Ko mentioned considering cost-effective alternatives such as studio rentals for live streams and recordings.

University students on the program suggested Ko should be cautious with his public statements and intensify flash campaign events.

In response, Ko assured them of mutual perseverance, saying, "As long as you don't give up, I won't give up," reinforcing his commitment to an unconventional election strategy.
