TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Tourist Administration of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) initiated a two-day cultural event at the Toronto Eaton Centre in Canada on Sunday (Dec. 10).

The stand, resembling Kaohsiung's famous "Dragon and Tiger Pagodas" near Lotus Lake, provided visitors with a taste of Taiwan through activities like 360-degree VR experiences, calligraphy bookmark crafting, pinball games, indigenous beadwork, and oil-paper umbrella painting workshops.

Chen Jin-ling, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, reported a remarkable 1,366.17 percent increase in Canadian visitors to Taiwan from January to October this year compared to 2022, totaling 71,329 travelers.

Despite the surge, this number has yet to return to pre-COVID-19 levels. To further promote travel, Taiwan has waived visa requirements for Canadians, positioning the country as an ideal winter destination.

Wen Chia-szu, Director of MOTC's Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, emphasized Canada's importance as a key long-haul market for Taiwan. She highlighted Taiwan's scenic landscapes, including mountains, coastlines, and diverse urban and small-town areas, making it an ideal spot for leisurely exploration.
