TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A Japanese metalworking innovator, Iron Factory Ikeda, faces an enigmatic surge in orders for steel banana-shaped hammers from Taiwan, raising questions about their purpose, according to reports.

Iron Factory Ikeda expressed bewilderment as they continuously received requests for steel bananas and sought to understand their utility. The factory shared their query on X, former Twitter, on Tuesday (Dec. 12).

Taiwan has become intrigued by these steel bananas after Iron Factory Ikeda's hammer designs became an online sensation, sparking enthusiastic conversations.

The factory proudly claims that its steel bananas command the largest global market share. These distinct items measure approximately 20 centimeters in length, weigh 1.5 kilograms each, and are priced at NT$2,620 (¥11,877), tax included.

Beyond the steel bananas, Iron Factory Ikeda's assortment of steel cutlery, featuring designs such as crabs, oysters, clams, and whelks, has also gained popularity in Taiwan, emerging as a unique consumer trend.
