TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced on Friday (Dec. 15) that 1,345 students from six schools will be required to transfer to other institutions due to the act Governing the Closure of Private Educational Institutions at Senior Secondary or Higher Level.

Passed last year, the act mandates the MOE to identify schools needing specialized guidance and provides a two-year window for improvement. Failure to meet standards results in orders to stop recruiting students and cease operations.

Chung Chou University of Science and Technology and Taiwan Shoufu University ceased operations this July, transferring 310 students. Mingdao University, Tatung Institute of Commerce and Technology, Tung Fang Design Institute, and TransWorld University are scheduled to close in July 2024.

To ensure minimal disruption in students' education, the MOE plans to hold briefings on student distribution and placement a semester before the institution's termination.

The MOE emphasizes that affected students will have priority for enrollment in nearby institutions. Additionally, the MOE will assist 354 affected faculty members and 328 staff in finding new employment.

Besides the four institutions closing next year, no other private universities or colleges are currently under MOE's specialized guidance.
