TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) Chairman Mark Liu announced on Tuesday (Dec. 19) his intention to step down after the next year's shareholders' meeting.

CEO C. C. Wei, currently the vice chairman, has been recommended by the company's committee as the successor, pending a board election in June next year.

Liu, who joined TSMC in 1993, became chairman in June 2018 after the retirement of the company's founder, Morris Chang. During his tenure, Liu focused on strengthening corporate governance, technological leadership, digital excellence, and global expansion.

Grateful for his 30 years at TSMC, Liu plans to continue contributing his semiconductor expertise in various capacities after retirement and spend more time with his family.

Liu remains confident in TSMC's future performance and is committed to enhancing corporate governance until his term concludes.
